Michael Doliveck, Bali guide and photography professor wins 2013 Travel Photographer of the Year from the New York Travel Writers Society. His visual depictions of unique cultures and brilliant scenery has captured global attention.

For capturing resplendent landscapes, dynamic rituals and authentic culture, Professor Michael Doliveck has been selected as the 2013 Travel Photographer of The Year by the New York Travel Writers Society. Over the years, his travel photography has been gaining increased recognition by both travelers and photographers alike. The latest award by the NYTWS validates Professor Doliveck’s status as a standout among travel photographers worldwide.

The New York Travel Writers Society is an international organization comprised of over 850 media professionals in the travel sector. These professionals range from travel bloggers, photographers, journalists, authors, editors and broadcasters. The award marks the latest recognition and growing popularity among travel bloggers, writers and photographers for Professor Doliveck’s outstanding work.

“They appreciate the rich imagery and way he’s been capturing the soul and character of the Balinese people,” said Dino Maiolo, co-contributor to the Floating Leaf Eco Retreat Blog where many of Doliveck’s images can be viewed. “His photos show the raw, everyday life of this fascinating society as well as the colorful rituals and traditions of the Balinese people.”

With photographs that endeavor to communicate the beauty and culture of a location to the viewer, Professor Doliveck is a storyteller that strives to reveal the otherwise hidden glimpses of authentic reality as it is lived and celebrated in the far reaches of the globe.

Having traveled and photographed in more than 60 countries, he has deep respect for his most common subject, the people and land of Bali. Through years of study, travel and relationship building with the generous Balinese people, Michael has created a body of work that attempts to explain the often-misinterpreted rituals and customs that are unique to this small island. His reverence and appreciation is clearly demonstrated in his work. One of his great joys is sharing his knowledge of this unique culture with others. His images are now brilliantly caught through the lens of Doliveck’s Canon 7D and magnificently displayed on the Floating Leaf Eco-Retreat blog.

Professor Doliveck fell in love with Bali over twenty years ago. He and his wife Putu now provide travelers and photographers with deep cultural immersion in this magnificent archipelago. His background in art and photography, along with his intimate connection to the Balinese culture, has provided an ideal foundation for his captivating imagery. Guests not only experience the profound Balinese culture, but also get first hand instruction by an award winning photo and art professor. Putu is of Balinese royal decent and adds to the experiences by providing guests with rare access to some of Bali’s ancient secrets and treasures.

This marks a big year for Michael and the Floating Leaf family. Earlier in the year his blog was selected in “The Top 100 Travel Blogs to Follow in 2013”. This combined with the hotly anticipated opening of Floating Leaf Eco-Retreat late this December, and the couple welcoming a baby boy, has made for quite a year.

Their latest project, Floating Leaf Eco-Retreat, builds on their success by providing well-appointed eco-luxury accommodations for their guests. The retreat is located in the beautiful seaside community of Ketewel, Bali, and is complete with six villa bedrooms, two spas, a large yoga studio, “ultimate relaxation pool” and a permaculture garden where they grow their own organic food, prepared for Floating Leaf guests by one of Bali’s renowned chefs.

The retreat is booking rooms swiftly as travelers, photographers and yoga instructors ardently await the opening later this year. Soft opening prices for individuals and groups are available until June 2014.
