Beach erosion is the long term loss of sand, sediment and rocks along the coastline in an area due to the action and energy of waves, currents, tides, wind driven water and other impacts from storms. The landward retreat of the shoreline is often measured and described over a scale of tides, seasons or other short term cyclic processes. Beach erosion is often caused by hydraulic action, abrasion impact or corrosion by wind, water and other forces both natural and unnatural. The Sandsaver modules were installed in the evening of January 12, 2020. Immediately after the first tide there was noticeable sand accumulation within the system. After 4 days or 7 tides it has been estimated that over 1500 cubic yards of sand has accumulated within and around the system. While the results will vary from one install to another, all based on the amount of sand is being carried by the surf, the height or force of the surf and the degree of slope pertaining to the profile of the beach. This particular installation has provided almost immediate satisfaction to all parties concerned. Even the local and national environmental officials have expressed their satisfaction and are anxious to see the long term results, stating “If this continues to prove itself, we will want Sandsaver to line the entire coast of Africa”. Of course only time will tell, but the results being displayed in such a short period of time has given hope to a solution that has plagued the coastlines of the entire planet.
