The 30th annual PBS National Memorial Day Concert will perform "Vietnam Valor and Brotherhood", the story of two soldiers - Brad Kennedy and Ernest “Pete” Peterson - who still meet each year at the Vietnam Wall to remember those who fought and died.

Austin, Texas, May 15, 2019 – As part of a special 30th anniversary commemoration to honor and thank the service and sacrifice of Vietnam War veterans, the PBS National Memorial Day Concert will share “Vietnam Valor and Brotherhood”, the story of two soldiers – Brad Kennedy and Ernest “Pete” Peterson – who formed a brotherhood while serving in the 11th US Cavalry in Vietnam, a.k.a. the Blackhorse Regiment. The two now meet each year at the Vietnam Wall to remember those who died.

“Vietnam Valor and Brotherhood” will be performed by actor Dennis Haysbert (24, MAJOR LEAGUE) as Pete Peterson, and Joe Mantegna as Brad Kennedy, along with “75th Anniversary of the D-Day Invasion”, with Academy Award-nominated actor Sam Elliott (A STAR IS BORN), and “A Gold Star Widow’s Journey”, with Jaina Lee Ortiz (STATION 19, ROSEWOOD).

Brad Kennedy authored a literary fiction novel based on his experiences, Betrayal: Will Stone in Vietnam (2012, Plain View Press, http://plainviewpress.com). Betrayal examines honor and loyalty — personal, social, military, and political. After Will Stone witnesses racial injustice, he decides he must take his turn to serve and volunteers to go to Vietnam, which reveals the world as it really is. The story raises questions of American foreign policy and military strategy, and goes deeper to ask, “What price must a man pay to remain moral? Are we all brothers? What is worth dying for?”

Hosted by Tony Award-winner Joe Mantegna and Emmy Award-winner Gary Sinise, the 30th annual NATIONAL MEMORIAL DAY CONCERT broadcasts Sunday, May 26, 2019, from 8:00 to 9:30 p.m. EDT live from the West Lawn of the U.S. Capitol, over PBS to millions of homes, and on the American Forces Network to our troops around the world . The concert will also stream live on Facebook, YouTube and www.pbs.org/national-memorial-day-concert and is available as Video on Demand, May 26 to June 9, 2019.
