Apple announced acquisition of Texture by Next Issue LLC, a magazine subscription app. Today, Media in Motion LLC announced 103 new magazines on its MagCast publishing platform so far in 2018.

Los Angeles, CA—March 26, 2018—iWireNews/ MagCast by Media in Motion announced today that 103 new magazines are in production on the app publishing platform so far in 2018. Only last week Apple announced it would acquire Texture by Next Issue LLC, a digital magazine subscription app that includes 200 major magazine titles.

Newsweek, one of the titles available in the Texture app, quoted Apple’s senior vice president of Internet Software and Services, Eddie Cue in its report on the deal. “We are committed to quality journalism from trusted sources and allowing magazines to keep producing beautifully designed and engaging stories for users,” said Cue.

Due to changes in the way consumers prefer to receive and view content, the print magazine industry has seen a steep decline over the last decade. Digital magazine apps, however, appear to be enjoying something of a renaissance as startups, independent publishers and consumers on mobile devices embrace the medium.

“Our publishers are serving millions of readers all over the world. We have publishers on six continents and new publishers coming aboard all the time,” says Damian Loth, a partner at Media in Motion, the parent company of MagCast.

Loth sees a bright future for independent magazines, adding “Magazine apps have enormous advantages over other digital content—they reside on the consumers most valued devices for one, meaning the connection to the reader is unparalleled. And in an era where brands are seeking audience aggregation and stronger engagement, our publishers are in a perfect position.”

Since its launch in 2010, Texture has become the leading multi-title subscription service giving users the ability to instantly access some of the most widely read magazines while on the go. In 2016, Texture was chosen by the App Store editorial team for the annual Best Of selections, which celebrate the most innovative apps and games for iOS users.

Magazine app publishing platforms such as MagCast have made it possible for startup publishers and small independents to enter a global publishing market, where they can compete effectively against international titles with enormous resources behind them.

“It’s incredibly satisfying to see magazines that were born on our MagCast platform that are now de facto publications-of-record in their respective markets. Foundr Magazine, as the voice of young entrepreneurs and Crowdfunding Focus Magazine are just two examples,” said Kevin R. Smith, partner at Media in Motion.

“I’ve been working directly with a large group of new publishers the last couple of months, and I haven’t seen this much enthusiasm for a new publishing medium since the early days of the web. It’s fantastic,” added Smith.

Founded by Loth and Smith in 2012, Media in Motion purchased the MagCast platform from 30DC Inc. in September, 2017.
