As reported in a recent article on the website of the ABC-TV affiliate in Pittsburgh, Pa., (WPXI-TV) high levels of lead have been found in the drinking water of an elementary school in Butler County. Making matters worse, the discovery occurred five months previously, but was not communicated to school officials until Jan. 22, according to the school district superintendent.This is only the latest in a series of revelations about water contamination in various cities across the country. Dangerous levels of many contaminants including lead are being found in drinking water, frequently after that water has been consumed by residents, including children.
