“Our first Sing Your Song competition pulled in contestants from throughout the region,” Janet Scott, Greater Jackson Arts Council Executive Director said. “We had finalists from all around the state and from cities as far as Chicago and Nashville. It’s our chance to put a local spin on the popularity of singing competitions but add the twist of requiring contestants to perform their own material.”

Twelve finalists will be selected from the entry pool to perform their original song in front of a live audience and three-judge panel of industry professionals, led by American winner Kris Allen, who will also perform. Three artists will advance to the awards circle to claim cash prizes of $1,000, $750 and $500.

Additionally, the top three finishers will receive professional studio recording time and a personal branding package from an award-winning graphic designer.

Kris Allen is an Arkansas native who advanced to the top of the American Idol franchise, claiming the winning slot on season eight of the show’s original run. He’s based in Nashville, is a prolific songwriter with five studio albums to his credit and tours internationally throughout the year. His first post-Idol single, “Live Like We’re Dying” has been certified platinum.
