1980s body-switching comedy, All of Me, film rights remain with original film company and new film is on its way to production.

The 1980s popular film All of Me, which featured Steve Martin and Lilly Tomlin in a body-switching, action comedy was recently setup to be remade by DreamWorks. This news was announced recently by a Hollywood reporter, despite legal debates over the film rights.

The remake of All of Me had been surrounded with controversy the production company behind the original film, Kings Road Entertainment had become involved in a legal tug-of-war with Sven Ebeling, former Kings board member and shareholder.

The claims set forth that instigated the legal proceedings were ownership rights, with Mr. Ebeling claiming ownership despite relinquishing all shares and rights back to Kings Road Entertainment. Ebeling, a convicted German felon, according to the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission website, plead guilty to investment fraud in 2004. Ebeling’s German production company then went bankrupt in 2009. His investors lost $9 million before he came to the U.S. Ebeling settled the suit with Kings Road in 2013, relinquished his shares, and the film rights are no longer clouded. As was expected, the legal findings of this unfortunate tug-of-war confirmed the fact that Kings Road Entertainment is in fact the owner of the film's right, free and clear of any other ownership issues.

The remake began as a development of DreamWorks in conjunction with writers Abby Kohen and Mark Silverstein. These writers are best known from “The Vow” and “She’s Not That into You” which were both box office hits. Capturing the essence of the film's high humor and adventure, while updating the film for today's movie goers, Abby Kohen and Mark Silverstein delivered a script that featured a collection of unusual twists and turns. The main switch in the rewritten script is the character that had been played by Steve Martin cast as a woman.

Since the rewrite, the plot thickened and DreamWorks because of issues with funding, reverted these rights back to Kings Road Entertainment and will not be pursuing the remake. Instead, Kings Road Entertainment will develop the original film and script with exciting updates in store for fans of this 1980’s classic.

Production for All of Me will be handled in-house by Kings Road Entertainment. No further details are being released at this time in regard to cast or other particulars of the anticipated movie. A yet unnamed comedy director will be attached to the film, with release dates forthcoming.
