Severe Weather Awareness Week Runs from February 17 - 24 in Alabama

The National Weather Service and the Alabama Emergency Management Agency marked the observance of Alabama Severe Weather Awareness Week from February 17-24, 2019. This weeklong observance will end with Alabama’s Severe Weather Preparedness Sales Tax Holiday, wherein residents can take advantage of buying weather preparedness items such as first aid kits without paying state sales tax, February 22-24, 2019.

For the entire week, topics about weather-related calamities will be discussed, as well as the necessary preparations that should be in place before the onset of any natural disasters. Moreover, simulation exercises and drills will be conducted to ensure that residents know how to respond to an impending threat, as shared in the official press release announcing Severe Weather Awareness Week: “As we approach our spring severe weather season, we designate a week in February as Severe Weather Awareness Week. This week promotes the importance of reviewing all information concerning severe weather and its associated preparedness. Severe weather, including tornadoes, can occur at any time, day or night.”

Each day of the week, a different topic will be covered, to include tornadoes, lightning, severe thunderstorms, and flooding. Local organizations are encouraged to take the lead in their communities, sharing knowledge and organizing drills. The week will end with three days of tax-free shopping on survival items. Shoppers can make one single $1,000 purchase of any portable generator and power cords, and covered items under $60. Some of the covered items include duct tape, tarpaulin, certain batteries, cell phone chargers, bungee cords, fire extinguishers, smoke detectors, and first aid kits.

The effects of severe weather can be mitigated through adequate preparation and planning. Having a thoroughly stocked first aid kit, like Surviveware’s Small First Aid Kit, helps in ensuring that one is always ready in an emergency. “Our Small First Aid Kit contains the essentials when treating a wound or injury,” said Amanda Condry, Surviveware’s co-founder. “Accidents and disasters can happen anytime, anywhere. To prepare for the “worst case,” it is crucial to have a reliable partner.”

Surviveware designed their Small First Aid Kit to contain 100 provisions that are easily retrievable, thanks to its organized and labeled compartments. It also boasts MOLLE-friendly straps that can be attached to any pack, rucksack, or other survival gear.

The company’s first aid kits have continuously gained popularity among survivalists and preparedness enthusiasts. In a review written by Mark, an Amazon customer, he shared his insights regarding the features of this small first aid pack, “This kit has everything you’ll need and it’s all organized and inside baggies and compartments so it won’t get wet or contaminated. It has enough bandages and gauze to dress multiple deep wounds or 1 wound multiple times with three butterfly stitches to close up the really bad ones. Tons of Bandaids for the little guys, burns, and stings with a good variety in shapes and sizes. Even the weird ones you can put on your elbow or knee.

The strap on the back can be attached to pretty much anything which is nice. Now I can attach it to my backpack instead of taking space up inside it. You can quickly detach the bag when you need to but is very sturdy as well. It’s got two straps vertically that buckle in and two straps horizontally at the tops and bottoms of the vertical straps with Velcro to secure them.

You can’t go wrong with this I think, it’s a small, durable, versatile, and lightweight first aid kit. Just carry some water for the use of cleaning a wound, all you get are a few wipes and towelettes. That’s usually enough, but what if there is a lot of dirt in the wound, you can’t wipe/dab that away.”

Enjoy the benefits of having a well-stocked and reliable first aid kit. It’s your family’s first level of protection and your primary step towards disaster preparedness and resiliency. Order one of Surviveware’s Small First Aid Kits and secure your family’s safety from weather-related accidents and injuries.

In support of Alabama’s Severe Weather Awareness Week, Surviveware is giving away 20% Amazon discount codes to the first 100 buyers of their Small First Aid Kit.
