According to FDNY representatives, training at the Department’s EMS Academy at Fort Totten in Queens is “serious business,” with physical training a major part of every probie’s day.
Prospective or current EMS candidates are advised to get themselves in shape before they enter the Academy, and as part of their daily schedule they will complete an hour and a half of physical training which encompasses intense cardio and calisthenics workouts.

Additionally, EMS Exam #9014 and EMS Trainee Exam #9075 candidates have been taking some time to learn about the Physical Agility Test (PAT) that they need to pass as part of the FDNY’s hiring process, a test that consists of four assessments and which is designed to ensure all candidates can properly perform the duties of an FDNY EMS team member.
