Leading Minority-Owned Social Enterprise Shares Valuable Products and Community Building

— Today, Afrikin, a community leader in sharing the culture and history of the African experience, has announced its expansion into coloring books and journals that highlight African culture and history. The new products provide unique personal experiences of self-discovery, delivering the richness of African traditions and aesthetics. Afrikin is debuting these new offerings in anticipation of February’s Black History Month. However, the larger goal is to fill a void of re-education and rebranding Africa’s image in the West. With many people still at home, it was the perfect opportunity to address misconceptions by contributing to the narrative about its global influence.

“I am a social entrepreneur focused on the business of culture and heritage,” said Alfonso D’Niscio Brooks, CEO and Founder of Afrikin who coined the term from the two words -- Africa and kinship.
“Our efforts are dedicated to promoting a positive image of Africa and people of African origin. As a survivor and descendant of enslaved Africans, I am motivated to use my voice and intellect to bring my perceptions of global, social transformation. I think that information is something essential and should be equally accessible to all people who contribute to the quality of life for future generations. African culture is a valid and important piece of the human experience, an exciting, expanding movement.”

Inspired by global events, Afrikin has decided to expand from its initial production of in-person art and cultural experiences exploring African origins. This step is important to ramping up the celebration of descendants’ voices of the African Diaspora. The work and reach of Afrikin extends across both class and ethnic lines and inspires people of every culture. Afrikin speaks to the issue of cultural curiosity, which leads to engagement in exploring one’s roots.

The coloring books in particular offers a type of product that has been missing in the market for far too long. They make for great family time, but also exercise the brain through creativity, generosity, imagination and problem-solving, a definite complement to be enjoyed with the Afrikin Ethiopian Harrar Hand Roasted Ground, and Whole Bean Coffees offered on their online marketplace as well.

The books, carefully created and curated for authenticity, communicate not only the powerful stories of people of African origin, but also the distinctive color scheme of the continent and its many cultures. Africa and African culture are filled with every color of the visible spectrum. Experience the energy of Afrikin with their offerings.
