Advanced Vision Care will be participating in the National Eye Health Week.

National Eye Health Week is a week-long campaign to promote the importance of eye health and the need for regular sight tests for all. This year, the campaign will run from 23 to 29 September with a wide variety of partners including Advanced Vision Care.

Advanced Vision Care is an independent surgeon-led clinic based on Harley St., London. The clinic offers a range of eye treatments to provide total visual rehabilitation. Consequently, Advanced Vision Care are often able to treat individuals that have been found unsuitable by other clinics. Their modern clinic houses the only transparent laser theatre in Europe and the most advanced non-laser theatre in the country – the Alcon Refractive Suite treating Cataracts, Lens Replacement and Implantable Contact Lenses.

Even with all their advanced technology and pioneering spirit, Advanced Vision Care joins the National Eye Health Week because the sooner a problem is found, the easier it is to treat. According to Vision Matters, over 2 million people in the UK are living with sight loss, that is severe enough to have a significant impact on their daily lives. But what is shocking is that almost half of these cases could be avoidable.

A simple eye test can reveal a wide range of health conditions, including diabetes and high blood pressure as well as any problems with the eyes themselves. Early signs of glaucoma may also be detected, which can be treated if found soon enough. Most people should consider having an eye test at least every 2 years. People from certain ethnic groups such as people from African-Caribbean communities and people who have a history of eye disease may prefer to have more regular tests. You should speak to your optometrist for more personalised advice.

There are some potential progressive blinding conditions like Keratoconus, which can be diagnosed earlier on by routine eye tests. Advanced Vision Care are the leaders in the UK for treating this condition with cross-linking and also for total visual rehabilitation.

Children must have regular eye tests for screening for short and long sight. If they are not treated sooner, it will lead to permanent loss of vision. Routine eye tests can diagnose easily treatable conditions to avoid blindness like glaucoma, cataracts and age-related macular degeneration.

The National Eye Health Week is a good time for people to book eye tests and seek advice to ensure the health of their eyes. Advanced Vision Care is proud to be taking part in this week once again this year and will be open to offer advice to new and existing patients.
