Summer Vacation Travel and Covid-19 Pandemic Stimulate Laundry Cart Sales

Summer travel and covid-19 sanitation initiatives create growing demand for laundry carts across schools, hotels and hospitals.

Summer vacations have slowed or canceled for a number of families across the United States, as fears of being infected by the coronavirus are a concern for many as the number of cases continue to climb in parts of the US. Historically, July and August are extremely busy months for the travel and tourism industries as many families are trying to squeeze in summer vacations prior to the return to school for many school-aged children. However, the continued threat and spread of the coronavirus has many school districts looking to postpone the start of their school years or possibly start the year with online classes in effort to protect the school aged children from contracting the virus.

Many school systems are performing wide-scale sanitization operations or replacing products that cannot be effectively sanitized. In some school districts, parents are noticing drastically increased student supply lists due to the number of previously supplied items that are being removed from the classrooms due to potential contamination from the Covid-19 pandemic. While other items, such as tablets and laptops pose a new set of sanitation and contamination concerns amongst parents and faculty.

Laundry Carts are a common staple at hotels and school systems. Hotels regularly collect dirty or soiled linens from guest rooms with the material handling carts, while offering them pool side for towel collection. Many school systems utilize laundry carts for material handling purposes, whether for locker or classroom cleanouts, recycling collection, fundraising drives or a number of uses for the athletic departments. This year’s coronavirus pandemic has even led some school systems to request antimicrobial additives in effort to curb the spread of diseases and germs thru surface contact of the laundry carts.

Hospitals and doctor’s offices commonly use laundry carts for the collection of linens and various material handling functions. These types of operations see the demand for laundry carts as fairly constant, however the coronavirus pandemic and contamination issues have created a spike in demand, as many have determined that less durable laundry carts manufactured from fabric, vinyl or canvas can become contaminated, dirty and deteriorate very rapidly, while offering little to no ability of being cleaned or sterilized. Because of these materials inability to be cleaned or sterilized, many hospitals, schools and hotels are opting for plastic laundry carts.

An Ohio-based rotational molding company, Granger Plastics is seeing an increase in demand for a variety of different laundry carts. Granger has manufactured laundry & recycling carts for over 25 years from its Middletown, Ohio facility. Granger’s carts are manufactured from polyethylene; one of the more commonly used materials for rotational molding. The laundry carts are offered in a wide variety of colors and available in different size capacities including a 16 cubic foot cart and 12, 16 and 20 Bushel Carts.
