The results are in. Alabama has more fast food restaurants per capita than any other state. The Yellowhammer State has 6.3 fast food restaurants per 10,000 people, according to research from Datafiniti and reported by Business Insider. Nebraska is second with 5.4 restaurants per 10,000 people and West Virginia and Oklahoma are tied for third with 5.3 each.

Southern states have the highest number of fast food restaurants per capita, followed by Midwestern states. The Northeast has the lowest number of fast food restaurants per capita. According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention’s National Center for Health Statistics, approximately one-third of those living in the U.S. eat fast food daily.
