The Edison Electric Institute reported that at one point, 1.2 million customers were without electricity as Hurricane Michael ravaged Florida, Georgia and other southeastern states two weeks ago. Those outages represent many tons of spoiled food.Residents of Forsyth County in Georgia and many other counties were faced with the same dilemma that countless others have dealt with through the years after losing power: what to do with refrigerated and frozen food. According to a recent article in the Forsyth County News in Georgia, time and temperature are the biggest factors in making this important decision. With refrigerator and freezer doors kept shut, refrigerated food should stay cold for about four hours, while food in a full freezer should hold its temperature for about 48 hours.
