The US News Bureau (USNB) launches their annual New Year Survey today which is open for all North American residents to take.  While most of 2014 might be considered a good year for many Americans, with falling oil prices, the stock market soaring to new highs and the unemployment rate moving below six percent, personal expectations for what’s ahead for the New Year is yet to be determined.  Participation is free and everyone is invited to take the survey at www.NewYearSurvey.com

Writing New Year resolutions are a time honored tradition and thousands of people will write down their goals for 2015 during the next couple of weeks. While recent trends indicate that people who make resolutions feel they are important to have in starting off each January, there are reasons to do so—all of which involve personal well-being. “Last year we found that people who made New Year resolutions at the start of 2014 and kept them were happier and many said they are now better off because they made them. This shows that making New Year goals can work and that there good benefits for them,” said MIKE RICH, founder of Entrepreneur Clubs International and noted success coach. “It is easy to make New Year resolutions; you just have to decide what you want to do, have or be in 2015 and then make a plan to achieve them.” Past surveys found those simple commitments such as eating better, exercising and saving more pays off big time.  Small steps can make a significant difference in the lives of people who get serious about the New Year by using January 1st as a catalyst for making personal life changes for the better. It all starts by having clear goals.

Having New Year resolutions can make tremendous impact on how people view, start and finish the year. Studies show it can improve the emotional well-being of families that take their goal resolutions together seriously. “The secret is to imagine the possibilities and write down long-term goals.  The next step is creating a plan and getting help sticking to it.”

The impacts of having goals and making New Year resolutions also can play out across communities benefiting charitable causes and improving neighborhoods by involving others to participate. For instance, EntrepreneurClubs.org was conceived as a goal for those purposes to provide support for start-ups and people launching home businesses.

Other Purposes of the New Year Survey

The annual survey provides valuable insights into the desires, goals and thinking of various segments of the population as to how they regard goals and plan to use New Year resolutions.  The monitoring of participant attitudes began as a graduate school project for Mike at the Western Institute for Social Research (WISR.edu) and he now conducts the survey annually. Starting in late December the survey rolls out by email, Facebook and other social media.  The aim of the New Year Survey is to study changes in the beliefs, attitudes, and behavior among a cross section of the population in the United States.  Results of the 2015 survey are expected to be released in early January.
