Harbour Holidays has reported an increase in holiday bookings from people who want to visit Cornwall to see the scenic locations depicted in the BBC TV series Poldark.

Padstow holiday company Harbour Holidays has reported an increase in bookings for its holiday accommodation as the latest series of Poldark inspires fans to visit the scenic locations depicted in the TV series.

The Padstow holiday specialist noticed a surge in bookings and enquiries from people citing Poldark as a major inspiration for them visiting the county for their holidays, after the new series started at the beginning of summer.

The BBC costume drama, which is now in its third series, is providing a boost for Cornish tourism businesses thanks to the gorgeous scenes of the Cornish coast and countryside being beamed into millions of British homes each Sunday evening.

The first two series of Poldark sparked a new spike in interest in Cornwall and the third series is proving equally popular for potential holidaymakers. As a result, the phones at Harbour Holidays have been busy with enquiries about holiday cottages close to locations featured in the TV programme.

Nicky Stanley from Harbour Holidays said: “There’s not a day goes by without a customer or member of staff mentioning Poldark in one way or another. The show has done a great job at putting Cornwall at the front of people’s minds when thinking about their holidays.

“Poldark has undoubtedly had a positive impact on the number of people interested in visiting or booking holiday accommodation in our area of Cornwall, in and around Padstow.”

Poldark is a remake of the 1970s costume drama featuring heartthrob actor Aidan Turner in the lead role. It tells the story of Ross Poldark and his attempt to rebuild his fortune after returning from fighting in the American War of Independence to find his family business in ruins.

As well as gripping storylines, handsome heroes and fine acting, the series features attractive cinematography aided by stunning Cornish scenery in key Poldark filming locations around the county.

In the Padstow area of North Cornwall, there are a number of locations which have made an appearance or are connected with the Poldark saga.

For example, Stepper Point with its views over the Camel Estuary near Padstow was used for a scene of horse-drawn carriages hurtling across the cliff-tops. And Padstow’s stately home Prideaux Place was often visited by Poldark creator and novelist Winston Graham.

Nicky Stanley added: “There are plenty of sights in the Padstow area to keep visiting Poldark fans happy. We hope they enjoy their time in this beautiful part of the world and discover even more reasons to return to Cornwall for future holidays.”
