Supplementation with E-EPA omega-3 fatty acid reduced HF frequency and improved the HF score relative to placebo. These results need to be confirmed by a clinical trial specifically designed to evaluate HFs in more symptomatic women.

Studies from US National Library of Medicine National Institutes of Health concluded, supplementation with E-EPA omega-3 fatty acid reduced HF frequency and improved the HF score relative to placebo. These results need to be confirmed by a clinical trial specifically designed to evaluate HFs in more symptomatic women.

There are two primary types of omega-3 fatty acids; docochexaenocid acid (DHA) and eicosapentaenoic acid (EPA). Both of these types are available in fish oil supplements, and they may help people to lose weight as well as lower bad cholesterol. A main contribution to the obesity epidemic is mood eating. This dangerous habit is spurred on by an annoying hormone known as cortisol. In a study conducted by the Tehran University of Medical Sciences, the EPA in fish oil was found to significantly reduce the cortisol levels in the subjects tested. This additional health benefit is exciting news for people struggling to lose weight, but there are other hormones that are positively affected by Omega-3 fatty acids.

Omega 3 Hormones: Menopause and Fish Oil

Menopause is a very difficult time in a woman’s life when going through a plethora of hormonal changes. Fortunately, the fatty acids in fish oil help to maintain healthy hormone levels in menopausal women. In some studies, negative effects of menopause, such as hot flashes, were reduced as effectively by fish oil as they were by prescription anti-depressants. Hot flashes and other negative menopause symptoms are caused by fluctuating estrogen and testosterone levels. While it’s significantly less than the levels found in men, all women have some testosterone within their bodies. When these levels are imbalanced, restless nights, weight gain and night sweats can become regular occurrences. However, fish oil helps to balance these hormones keeping them at a stable level instead of fluctuating wildly. A study conducted at the Université Laval’s Faculty of Medicine showed that menopausal women who suffered from mild depression experienced fewer symptoms of the troubling disease after taking fish oil supplements for a month. These women also experienced fewer mood swings as a result of the DHA and EPA found within the fish oil.

While there are a number of positive health benefits associated with taking fish oil supplements, they should be used in moderation. Any good supplement will include a daily dosage recommendation which should never be exceeded. However, taking the proper amount of fish oil helps to maintain healthy hormone levels, lose weight and ease the symptoms of menopause. Essentials Lab is proud to announce the release of Essentials Omega 3 Fish Oil with 2000mg of essential fatty acids, 800mg EPA and 400mg DHA.
