Waxlander Gallery to Host Childers-West for their Exhibition Entitled, “Elevated Elements” in May 2014.

Waxlander Art Gallery & Sculpture Garden on historic Canyon Road in Santa Fe, New Mexico is busy preparing for their May 2014 exhibition. The Show, called “Elevated Elements,” will feature the works of the multi-media duo, Childers-West, and the opening will take place on Friday, May 23 from 5:00-7:30PM Mountain Time. The event is open to the public and will include live music and gourmet food. Attendees will have the opportunity to talk with Josiane Childers and Justin West about their inspiration and process, and admission is free.

Childers sheds light on “Elevated Elements,” saying, “The inspiration behind the show is continuing our collaborative work with our unconventional wall hanging, painted steel sculpture or reverse painted plexi-glass with steel framing.” She continues, “The pieces are physically elevated, hanging on the walls, but also elevate the mind of the viewer.”

Perhaps the most recognizable characteristic of Childers-West’s work is the color the duo employs. Always contemporary, their creations are rich with unexpected shapes, design elements and hue. They continually find fodder for their work from the sky and landscape of the Southwest, and specifically, the grandeur of desert land. The pair’s interpretation of what they see brings the viewer to an enlightened place.

Collectors have a lot to look forward to with this exhibition, and Childers explains, “For the show, Justin is working on new shapes and ways of shaping the steel, and I am pushing for bolder color and depth with the paints. We love that we can bring magical light, color and happiness into the homes and other spaces that the art pieces go on to live!”

Childers-West is a husband and wife artist duo comprised of Josiane Childers and Justin West. Josiane’s acrylics on canvas, paired with Justin’s sculptural expertise in the mediums of steel and plexiglass, make the duo’s contemporary creations dynamic in every sense of the word. Josiane was born in North Carolina and grew up in upstate New York. She has always had an affinity for the arts, and her childhood drawings eventually morphed into a passion for acrylics. Justin was born in Colorado, moved to Germany for a few years, then moved to upstate New York, and finished growing up in Arizona. He has a self-proclaimed obsession with old cars and trucks, which led him working in construction and mechanics. He employs his metal-bending and glass-working skills in the sculptural creations he and Josiane make. The couple presently resides in Phoenix, Arizona with their three German Shepherds.
