A revival of the play Days of Wine and Roses is a theatrical fundraiser for Renascent Foundation, Canada’s leading abstinence based residential treatment facility. Opening May 9 to 23 at Hart House Theatre, University of Toronto campus, the play features an all-sober professional cast. Days of Wine and Roses promises hope and is a must-see for members of the one in three families with a loved one caught in the disease of alcoholism and drug addiction –now the second leading mental health issue in Canada.

The revival of the 60’s hit TV and Broadway play is the brainchild of theatre director Jeff Peller who is also in recovery. Renascent Foundation’s Fundraising Chair and Board Member, Toronto’s successful business woman, Judy Wells, now sober for twenty three years, stepped forward to champion Days of Wine and Roses. The fifteen day, thirteen performance run from an all-sober cast has over 75 years of continuous sobriety.

The hard-hitting drama is a Mad Man story without the glamour and features Canadian icon Sean McCann, and local actors, Ian Kilburn, Anne Page, David Ludwig. All are available for interviews.

The CEO of Renascent, Dr. Patrick Smith believes the pendulum is swinging back to be able to talk about abstinence-based treatment and recovery and facilitating and supporting people’s involvement in the power of Twelve Step programs where they can reclaim their lives, one day at a time. Addiction can be treated and recovery can be celebrated.

Each show will be hosted by a well known personality from the world of sports, business, show biz and the medical and wellness community and there will be a cast and crew Q and A post performance. Names and short bios to be announced shortly.

There are four Renascent treatment centres in the Toronto area and no one is turned away for lack of funds if sincere in their quest for sobriety. Only partially funded by the province, for each 21-day program, the Foundation must raise an additional $1400.
