Top Trial Lawyer Talks About How Lawyers Keep Us Safe

Trial Lawyer Hall of Fame member Mike Burg explains the role of lawyers as corporate watchdogs and protectors of consumers rights, reports http://askmikeburg.com.

Mike Burg, a leading consumer protection trial attorney, discusses the role lawyers play in keeping consumers safe and holding corporations accountable in a new video on askmikeburg.com, a website that helps people with every day legal issues. The videos on the site have attracted more than 50,000 views.

"Every day I hear lawyer jokes," Mike says. "I hear that lawyers are parasites who live off of people's problems. However, those problems are created by other people and often by corporations. The lawyers are there to help you with your problem."

Mike continues, "Big corporations don't police themselves. Congress does a lousy job of supporting their constituents as big corporations and their lobbyists continuously assert their financial muscle. Regulatory agencies are underfunded and overwhelmed. This has left lawyers to stand up for consumers rights."

Mike cites the landmark Ford Pinto case in which the rear-mounted gas tank was prone to exploding when the Pinto was hit from behind as an example of lawyers changing people's lives.

"Lawyers brought the Ford Pinto defect to the public's attention by bringing lawsuits of victims who were burned or killed," Mike says. "Ford could have corrected the problem for a few dollars per vehicle, but they made an economic decision that it was cheaper to pay the victims than to fix the cars. That's the way corporations sometimes work. It's up to the lawyer to go after those corporations, to make sure the products they produce for you and your families are safe."

The list of dangerously defective products in the news grows daily. There are cars that accelerate when they aren't supposed to, air bags that explode, e-cigarettes that burn people, and mini blinds that strangle toddlers. The companies that make and market these unsafe products need to be held responsible, and Top Trial Lawyer Mike Burg has spent his entire career doing just that.

Mike recently published an editorial on The Hill entitled "Lawyers: The Unelected Legislators of Our Rights" that highlights how lawyers keep you safe and the ways in which they are now the last line of defense for the average person seeking justice in a world where corporate bullies run roughshod over Congress.
