Tools First launched its website today, offering buyers of do-it-yourself (DIY) tools a rich resource of research and reviews to help them make informed purchasing decisions. The site, https://toolsfirst.com, compares numerous tools in various DIY categories and offers recommendations about what will work best in different DIY situations.“Our goal is to be the go-to resource when deciding what tool is needed for the job for the home DIYer,” said John Rickman of Tools First. “The essence of DIY is, of course, doing the work yourself. But, part of doing it yourself means selecting the right tool – by yourself. But now, a DIYer can have the help of a lot of seasoned experts commenting on which tool will do the trick for DIY tasks.”
The site offers reviews and commentary about portable workbenches, tile saws, detail sanders, wood planers and more. For each product category, Tools First provides a comparison table that shows the price, warranty and physical characteristics of the most popular tools. For example, a less expensive portable workbench might not be able to carry as heavy a load as a more expensive one. “The buyer needs to understand the tradeoffs you get with price,” Rickman added. “A lot of products look like bargains – and maybe they are, but if you need a bench to hold a 500-pound load and it’s only rated for 350, you’ll be sorry.”
Tools First also offers a “what makes it great” article and first choice for each category. In the tile saw category, for example, the site recommends the SKIL 3540-02. According to Tools First, the saw is good for cutting porcelain despite being lightweight. The stainless steel surface is an added bonus, preventing the unit from developing rust and corrosion.
