The Unique Group discusses the new of the 65th NBA All-Star game jerseys and the significance of Toronto playing host.

The Unique Group (www.TheUniqueGroup.com), a company offering one stop brand packaging solutions, is weighing in on the designs of the NBA All-Star weekend game jerseys.

With the 65th NBA All-Star game happening on February 14 at the Air Canada Centre, more and more is happening as Toronto prepares to host the game for the first time in its history. One tradition of every All-Star weekend is the designing of the game jerseys.

“It’s a designer’s dream to be able to put his or her creations on display for the sports world to see,” says Asher Lichtman, VP Sales and Marketing at The Unique Group. “The NBA is a huge brand not only in the United States, but with the All-Star game being held outside of U.S borders for the first time, this event will be even more memorable.”

Adidas unveiled the jerseys along with the NBA back in December 2015. They took Toronto’s history into account when designing it, using a font similar to the one that was used in the first ever NBA game between the Toronto Huskies and the New York Knickerbockers. Blue east and red west jerseys were created with elements of Toronto mixed into the design, including the Toronto cityscape and iconic maple leaf.

“As much as this is an eventful weekend for the NBA, it’s a historic moment for Toronto and for Canada,” Lichtman continues. “It’s only right that the uniforms reflect some Canadian culture and give elements of the host city.”

Every detail of the jersey design was considered. The drawstrings and inside necks of the jerseys are multi-coloured to signify the global growth of basketball. That is reflective not only of Canada, but of the many other nationalities currently represented in the NBA. This year also marks the 125th anniversary of the invention of the game by Canadian James Naismith.
