Holly Umbach, wife of Dr. Tom Umbach and Executive Visionary Officer (EVO) of Blossom Bariatrics, received the The Freedom Award at The Maui Mastermind “Scale Your Business” conference on 10 January 2015. In accepting the award, Umbach recounted how Blossom has doubled in growth year after year, has its own surgical center, and has dominated the national and international medical weight loss field. Holly also shared how she nurtured Blossom Bariatrics’ growth to such a point that she is no longer needed.As EVO, Holly led Blossom Bariatrics to achieve 51% growth last year (2014), which led to receiving the Freedom Award. For the past 7 years as EVO, Holly conducted all the hiring--slowly filling each position over the last seven years--and managed daily operations, billing, and marketing. She also oversaw collections and executed business scaling and strategic growth. “I did everything that a practice manager and CEO would do for a company.” Though leaving the day-to-day operations, Holly will continue to manage specific financial duties.
“Blossom Bariatrics was my baby,” Holly explains, “so it is with excitement and sadness I accept Maui Mastermind’s Freedom Award. Getting our practice to a place where it could function smoothly without me was always the end goal. However, I wasn’t prepared for how much I would miss being involved in Blossom’s operations every day. I effectively replaced myself,” she concedes, “and the realization that you aren’t needed anymore is bittersweet.”
With her achievement, Umbach has freed up enough time to pursue a long-held dream of opening her own business—Purple Monkey Muffins Co.—a gluten-free muffin shop. “I now have freedom to pursue other passions and interests, such as my muffin cafe.”
Holly shares, “I’ve suffered from Celiac’s disease--as does my 17 year old son--and finding a pastry to go with my coffee has been nigh impossible. I have resorted to making them on my own out of my home. I’ve always wanted to start my own gluten-free muffin company and the time is finally right.”
Maui Mastermind, an elite group of business coaching and accountability advisors, also recognized the Umbach’s with an additional award. Dr. Tom Umbach’s own Warm Springs Surgical Center (WSSC), located in Las Vegas, Nevada, was recognized for its phenomenal 300% growth! Because of WSSC’s success, Dr. Tom is transitioning away from using his surgery privileges at local hospitals; he has also attracted other surgeons who use WSSC to perform their surgical procedures.
