America’s by far most liberal and reformist state, New York has certainly shown impressive records in substantially supporting LGBT rights and freedoms, specifically with respect to their equal and unbiased access to quality healthcare services, with no discrimination on the grounds of gender, lifestyle or socioeconomic background. Crucial treatments and life-saving options that can be difficult to make available elsewhere, are accessible through Callen-Lorde Community Health Center. Committed to providing support to organizations, Stanley Tomchin is proud to contribute to the on-going programs at Callen-Lorde.

A global leader in LGBT health and welfare, this organization strives to extend its services to the people who need them most. For many years, they have been transforming lives in communities through cutting-edge therapies and researching new developments in areas that include emotional and reproductive assistance. Callen-Lorde Community Health Center provides confidential, sensitive, physical and mental wellness services targeted to New York’s lesbian, gay, bisexual, and transgender communities. Starting with basic services dating back over 40 years the St. Mark’s Community Clinic and the Gay Men’s Health Project combined to form what is now the Callen-Lorde Health Center. Initially it was a volunteer-based, program with limited availability that housed the country’s first community-based HIV center. These two groups were some of the first of their kind to offer screening and treatment for sexually-transmitted diseases.

There is a constant drive to bring positive change in new locations around the world, asserting that access to quality medical care is a right that needs to be equal to all humans regardless of their gender identity. To further this task, the organization promotes education and wellness, and maintains a commitment to quality and a mission to welcome diversity. Recently Callen-Lorde sent a team of mental health providers for training in Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT) hosted by The Linehan Institute-Behavioral Tech at St. John’s University. Designed to simulate actual treatment, the course requires rigorous preparation, training, and study. Callen-Lorde’s DBT group participated in the experiential training designed to foster team development and received an award for their outstanding work. A philanthropist for many years, Stanley Tomchin is determined to ensure the maintenance and expansion of Callen-Lorde’s programs and service. New donations will fund research that advocates continuous learning and adapting to the ever-changing needs of the community.
