Southwestern College, which offers Master’s Degrees in Counseling and Art Therapy, is proud to announce the 32nd Annual Transformation and Healing Conference, which features regional and internationally known speakers in the areas of psychology, holistic health and alternative therapies, August 21-25 of 2013. This yearly event is a valuable tool for counselors and art therapists looking to learn additional techniques to use in their practice, and for obtaining required Continuing Education Credits. With so many practitioners relying on this symposium, the school has to ensure that the organizer is comfortable and prepared to undertake the challenge. That’s why they are glad to once again have Vice-President Katherine Ninos in charge of planning this year’s conference."Katherine was an instrumental figure in the creation of the conference, and has been the central coordinator ever since", says Dr. James Nolan, Southwestern College's President. "We are thrilled that she still has the passion and energy to manifest this very important event again this year. Except for the keynote, nobody gets paid to present, but they love to--that is a tribute to Katherine's authentic relationships with healers all over this region over thirty plus years."
Katherine was one of the founders of the Transformation and Healing Conference. Established in 1981, it was designed to be a low cost alternative for continuing education for counselors and art therapists, as well as a unique means of introducing the college to the Santa Fe area. She has worked every year since to ensure that the conference is a valuable tool for students, professionals and the greater community. She works with educators and speakers to schedule unique workshops on a variety of theories, practices and more.
In addition to her conference duties, Ms. Ninos teaches several classes that are part of the core curriculum for students and is a prominent figure among the school’s staff. She was a member of the first graduating class, and was named Chief Administrator in 1980. She has since helped the school move from Alamagordo, where it was founded, to Santa Fe, been named administrative Vice President and finally school Vice President in 1996. As an educator and licensed counselor, she is sought after for speaking presentations on the subjects of consciousness and transformational education. Most recently she has worked to create a new identity for the school’s community education program by organizing all of the offerings under the new name The New Earth Institute of Southwestern College.
Southwestern College was established in 1976 and started offering classes in 1979 as Quimby College in Alamogordo, New Mexico. It moved to Santa Fe in 1981 and was later renamed to Southwestern College. The College is a graduate level institution that offers Master’s Degrees in Counseling and Art Therapy in a holistic learning environment. Southwestern is fully accredited by the Higher Learning Commission (HLC) and the American Art Therapy Association (AATA).
