Shante Gladden Found Not Guilty on All Charges

Shante Gladden let his peers decide his fate. The jury trial took 6 days to complete. The jury deliberated for one and a half days before returning the not guilty verdict for Gladden.

On June 8, 2017, a jury in Montgomery County, Maryland found Shante Gladden not guilty of several charges including but not limited to armed robbery, robbery, conspiracy to commit armed robbery, use of a handgun during the commission of a felony and conspiracy to use of a handgun during the commission of a felony.


The case involved the homicide of Garrett Alexander McClees who was killed by unknown assailants on October 8, 2015, at approximately 4:43pm in Edgewood Neighborhood Park on Robey Road in Silver Spring, MD. Detectives believed the homicide to be drug-related. The Baltimore Chief Medical Examiner’s Office determined the death to be homicide, caused by a gunshot wound to the torso. According to Montgomery County and Maryland-National Capital Park police, McClees was shot once. The victim died on scene, due to his injuries.


Alleged suspects were Earl Junius Bennette and Shante Gladden. A candy box found near the body contained the fingerprints of Bennette, lifted by a crime scene tech on October 14, 2015. Arrest warrants were obtained on October 22, 2015, and executed on October 23, 2015, placing both men under arrest. Gladden was detained in Washington, DC, and awaited extradition to Montgomery County, while Bennette was arrested by Montgomery County police officers in Silver Spring, MD.
