Shasta Mud Run was excellent opportunity to interact with the public, both athlete and fun runner alike, reports ReddingSportsTherapy.com

Redding Sports Therapy, a local sports therapy firm, recently announced their attendance at the Shasta Mud Run. There, they set up a tent to treat participants and offer advice and consultations. According to spokesperson Healohanani Montgomery, it was a perfect opportunity to meet with the public, introduce their services and help runners.

Says Montgomery, "As our primary emphasis is on sports therapy, it seemed like a natural fit to set up a booth at the mud run. It's amazing how the simplest activity can cause such intense pain in a person, athlete or not. The mud run had a wide variety of participants and we were able to talk with a number of different people about problems they'd been 'playing through the pain' on. The one thing we wanted to get through to the public was that continuing to exercise and work out on an injured part can cause more damage than good. Suffering in silence is not the answer."

In fact, industry experts suggest most individuals, athletes or not, can benefit from physical therapy sessions, whether it be the result of a sprained ankle or something far more complex such as neurological disorders. "In fact," Montgomery continues, "we have those who come to see who are not even actually hurt or injured. As movement experts, we help our patients prevent injuries in their activities."

Physical therapy, be it from a sports therapy office or traditional, utilizes non-invasive and non-medical instruments, helping to improve a body's total function. Says Montgomery, "Physical therapists put their focus on eliminating pain, total body healing, restoring function and full movement associated with injury. Our therapy also puts a spotlight on ergonomics or body mechanic training, fitness, and wellness through a number of different methods such as massage, corrective exercise and fundamentals, Bowenwork or Schulman Therapy, and Orthopedic Acupuncture."

Montgomery says they assess current body mechanics, existing injuries and muscle imbalances. "The goal is to make a client's weakness a strength. They should expect future independence, confidence and proficiency in personal programming and fundamentals, as well as increased power, range of motion, better posture, greater mobility and strategies for optimal recovery."
