Rangeline Co., the trusted provider of wet tapping, hot tapping and valve insertion services throughout North America, has yet again completed a line stop installation without a hitch!The city of Houston, Texas wanted to upgrade their wastewater treatment plant, so they looked to Rangeline, a name that has been trusted for over 20 years, to get the job done. Rangeline Tapping Services was contacted to by-pass the City of Houston’s largest treatment plant and to complete a line stop.
Line stopping is a cost effective way to maintain, modify and repair various types of piping systems without having to shut down the entire area. There are various line stop applications, some of which include replacement or repair of existing valves, damaged or obsolete mains, and creating a permanent or temporary bypass to an existing section of pipe or line while maintaining flow in the main.
The line stop operation consists of a special flanged line stop fitting, a temporary valve, and an actuator. The line stop fitting is installed and tested, the temporary valve is installed, and then the hot tap is completed. After the hot tap, Rangeline installs the line stop actuator and inserts the line stopping head into the line. When the necessary work has been accomplished, the line stop head is removed, and the completion plug is set.
For the City of Houston, the Rangeline team of service professionals evaluated the W.W.T.P. and proposed a plan that kept the plant up and running while the new upgrades were being preformed.
In order to bypass a major section of the plant, a Double 60” line stop was used. The line stopping process was performed to perfection, giving an excellent shut while the pipe modification was preformed and the plant successfully stayed up and running with no interruption to any customers during the process.
