Project Bubble Announces Shared Timer Feature And Custom Task Progress

The developers at Project Bubble have been hard at work adding features to help managers keep their projects on target and to budget.

Project Bubble already has a range of tools to help contractors keep track of the amount of time spent on individual tasks and the timer function is one of the most valuable features for doing this. However, managers haven’t been able to get an overview of how their staff are tracking time – until now.

From their dashboard they can now see each task and how much time has been spent on it in total, but then drill down to see each individual staff member’s entries, giving valuable data to any manager looking to keep tight control on project budgets and importantly, report them to clients.

Barry Weston, a project manager at South Somerset County Council said: “In today’s environment of closer budgetary control, a reduced spending allowance and greater scrutiny, we really have to ensure that every project we have is delivered on time and to target. We’ve been using this feature for the last two weeks and already we’re seeing where we can make better use of our resources and reduce costs, it’s proven to be invaluable.”

Of course, how people measure task completeness is also up for debate in many organisations and a feature announced at the same time will help with this too. “Custom Task Progress” allows the administrator to set progress manually , or base it on the number of sub-tasks completed.

This addresses the problem of some sub-tasks being more important than others. With the default method of calculating task completeness each sub-task is simply allocated a fraction of the complete task, however five of those tasks may only contribute, say, ten percent, while the bulk is covered by another sub-task completely.

Stu Green of Project Bubble said: “We are continually looking to provide solutions that work in real-world situations and so always look for feedback from our users. This particular change shows that we need to be flexible and allow the software to work how people work rather than get people to fit within a specific software-led paradigm.”
