People’s Park to Host Davao Tribal Sports for Kadayawan ‘15

Davao City People's Park is set to host the 2nd Lumadnog Dula, a tribal sporting event during the 30th Kadayawan sa Dabaw Festival. The event will be held on August 20, 2015 as part of the 10-day Kadayawan festivities.

Davao City’s People’s Park will be playing host to Lumadnong Dula: Davao Tribal Sports, one of the highlights of the upcoming Kadayawan Festival. The tribal sporting event will take place on August 20, 2015 as part of the 10-day festivities.


Lumadnong Dula is a showcase of tribal sports attended by representatives of five of Davao’s 11 indigenous tribes: Ata, Klata, Matigsalog, Tagabawa and Ovu Manuvou. The event will see a total of 250 tribal athletes who will compete in various events.


The said event has been allocated a budget of PhP580,507 by the Sports Development Division of the City Mayor’s Office. Tribal games coordinator Tommy Iñigo has expressed that Lumadnong Dula is “a must-watch event of the Kadayawan Festival as indigenous people, our lumad brothers and sisters, will get to showcase their life and culture in the games”.


Davao City People’s Park provides ample space for the conduct of event and has been the venue of the previous year’s games. Lumadnong Dula is will be staged for the second time since its launch during Kadawayan 2014. Other events during the Kadayawan Festival will be held in various venues including San Pedro Square, Davao City Recreation Center, Tionko Field, Roxas Avenue and Rizal Park.


The 30th Kadayawan sa Dabaw events include Hudyakaan sa Kadayawan, Kadayawan Street Party, Sayaw Mindanaw, Tunog Mindanaw, Davao River Festival, Panagtagbo and the much-awaited Indak-Indak sa Kadalanan (street dancing) and Pumulak sa Kadawayan (floral float parade).


Kadayawan sa Dabaw is one of the biggest festivals in the Philippines attended by spectators and contingents from all over the country. The festival is scheduled to commence on August 17, 2015 in a ceremony called Pagbukas: Opening of the 30th Kadayawan sa Dabaw Festival, 6PM-8PM at the San Pedro Square. The ceremony will be attended by tribal leaders and local officials headed by Davao City Mayor Rodrigo R. Duterte.
