It has been announced recently by Oculus that it has raised $16 million in investment led by Spark Capital and Matrix Partners alongside Founders Fund and Formation 8. Part of the Oculus VR development is the Oculus Rift headset, which is a next generation virtual reality headset that has been designed with immersive gaming in mind. As explained in a blog post at Oculusvr.com, a total of $16 million has been raised as part of a Series A Funding round, and the money is set to provide Oculus with the opportunity to make VR more viable and affordable for gamers.
Oculus chose investors based on which ones they believed would be the perfect fit and would have a strong interests and belief in the future of virtual reality. Amongst these investors are those who have invested in startup companies and taken them to mass market time and time again. With this investment, Oculus said that it will be able to benefit from the opportunity to hire some of the best and brightest minds in VR from around the globe and will be able to experiment with cutting edge technology.
In a statement, one of the investors, Matrix Partners, said: "Today we announced that we co-led an investment in Oculus VR with our friends at Spark Capital. We are thrilled about the opportunity to work with the Oculus crew for a number of reasons."
