Thanks to her inspiring life story, her collection contains eight individual bags, ranging from large “basket” bags to “baguette,” “flap,” “tote,” and “messenger”.

Samira Buchi, the woman behind her eponymous Samira Buchi New York designer handbags, has an affinity for the Mediterranean lifestyle. Though she began life in Switzerland, she was raised by parents with Mediterranean roots and spent much of her youth traveling the big cities and experiencing cultural diversity. Thanks to this cosmopolitan upbringing, it was no surprise that her parents decided to take her on a trip to New York in 1979, to the rough-and-ready SoHo street on the West Side of Manhattan. Even then, Buchi promised herself she’d live there one day.

As time passed and she did all the things that people normally do: get a job, raise a family and pursue their own creative endeavors, she came to realize that she always had passion for leather. Samira went back to school, studying accessory design at FIT in New York dedicating herself to learning everything she could about it. She put a significant amount of effort into her education, and was soon able to craft it perfectly.

Samira Buchi New York’s first collection of leather handbags, Nativ is now for sale.

After spending time investigating her products, it soon becomes clear that Samira Buchi is offering something more than a new range of designer handbags. There’s a level of attention to detail here that is rare and an appreciation for the varied way in which people live their lives. Every bag in the collection is designed for a particular person, and no two bags are alike.

Thanks to her inspiring life story, her collection contains eight individual bags, ranging from large “basket” bags to “baguette,” “flap,” “tote,” and “messenger”. Every bag in the range has a story behind it, helping people to understand how Buchi came to the design decisions that she did. The Hobo, NOLAN for instance, is so named because it is a bag that is intended to be a carrier for a woman’s daily belongings and “nomadic possessions.”

The bags are now on sale at Buchi’s online store, they are produced in Long Island City, New York, in her sunlit studio. Each item is individually constructed, helping, as she puts it, to add to the “spirit of the woman carrying it.”
