In order to be a health and safety representative (HSR) in Queensland, first need to complete a health and safety representative training course - officially known as the Workplace Health and Safety Queensland (WHSQ) Health Safety Representative Initial Training Course, (and also the Refresher Training and Bridging Course).On January 1, 2012 the new National Work Health and Safety (WHS) Act 2011 came in to force. The HSR course is intended to assist Health Safety Representatives (HSRs) and Deputy HSRs understand how the new legislation will affect health and safety outcomes in their workplace.
If anyone who are wishing to be an officially nominated HSR, this 5-day comprehensive course is mandatory training. HSR's are further required to do the refresher course every year to ensure their knowledge is current and up to date.
The HSR training course aims to familiarise participants with the knowledge and skills necessary to fulfil their role as Health and Safety Representatives within organisations as set down in the NEW National Harmonisation legislation as detailed in section 72 of the Work Health and Safety Act 2011.
