Satisfying the continuing education requirements to maintain licensure in counseling or art therapy is an ongoing process. Finding classes that enrich the practice, research or business needs of the counselor takes time, and it is extremely difficult to find trainings that keep “consciousness” and holistic approaches to mental health as their central focus. Therefore, knowing what institutions offer such continuing education credits is vital to the careers of those in the mental health professions. The New Earth Institute of Southwestern College is pleased to announce the Winter 2014 continuing education schedule, which features a variety of topics that satisfy the interests of both the attendees as well as the requirements for continued licensure.“The range and depth of topics available through the New Earth Institute of Southwestern College seems to expand every year,” says Dr. Jim Nolan, President of Southwestern College. “Workshops on gender identity, holistic mental health, bereavement, adolescent substance abuse and even a vision quest are all available within the next couple months. In addition to fulfilling ongoing licensure requirements, many of the classes and workshops can also be applied to continued learning in another area. Certificates can enhance the practice areas that a counselor can serve, and can be essential in future career advancements. Many New Earth Institute courses are also applicable to the professional certificates offered by the school.
“It’s an ideal situation,” concludes Dr. Nolan, “a professional looking to expand their offerings or even bring new techniques to their clients can take classes in a variety of disciplines, and then make an informed choice as to what direction suits them, and their practice, best.”
