Rasplyn is the solo project of composer and filmmaker Carolyn O’Neill, who uses her experience with classical composition and film to create mystical and visually evocative landscapes with her music. Carolyn is a Chicago native who grew up playing the clarinet and organ, and went on to receive her degree in Music Composition from Columbia College Chicago.Under her pseudonym Rasplyn, her music is dark, but beautiful and filled with textured layers influenced by world culture and fantasy. Continually evolving her approach, she has now seen fit to release her debut album, "Scenes Through the Magic Eye", which will be released by label Mythical Records on November 30th, 2014.
The experimental music album is currently available to stream and preorder on the Mythical Records website. The album shows clear influences from Carolyn’s work as co-founder and director of the Logan Square New Music Ensemble who perform new music written by local contemporary composers in Chicago.
The album also draws inspirations from Carolyn’s other creative endeavors in other media, including safari shoots, documentaries, video games and fantasy projects. Her music has previously won awards, with her work on short film 'Everything Tastes Better' winning the film one of its eight awards, for Best Music. This work has enabled her to deepen the connection between audio and imagery that informs the album’s principle objective.
