The new website design was implemented to resolve several different issues with the old layout and design. One of the main updates was ensuring the site content was updated to be mobile friendly for mobile device users. “Today, many people looking for a criminal defense lawyer are searching for one from their smartphone or tablet because they require help now and do not have time to wait until they can access a computer. It only made sense to update the law firm’s website for mobile users,” says Mitch Engle.Part of the reason the law firm required a new website design was in response to changes in Google’s website ranking policies and guidelines taking effect on April 21, 2015. Under these new guidelines, websites are encouraged to offer mobile friendly browsing for online users. If websites do not update or modify their current website, or develop and launch a new site design incorporating mobile friendliness, Google is going to place lower priority in search results for those websites. For websites updating their content and ensuring it is mobile friendly, Google is currently rewarding sites with a special mobile friendly label. Once the new ranking policies go into effect, sites deemed mobile friendly are anticipated to receive higher rankings in relevant search results.

Updating the website content also provides a potential opportunity to attract even more people to the law firm’s website. “If other criminal defense law firms do not make their sites content mobile friendly, essentially, they are giving away business to other criminal defense lawyers in their area,” stated Mr. Engel.
Rather than risk losing potential clients, the law firm saw the website resign as a necessity in doing business in online markets. Other noticeable changes current clients will see on the new homepage are links to Mr. Engel’s social media sites, a secure contact box, a maps and directions link to the law firm’s offices, and the ability to call the office using Skype or another online Internet phone service application.
