Fayetteville, NC -- McKee Homes begins new construction in Knightdale Station, Preston Development Company's 300-acre planned neighborhood, located near downtown Knightdale.

Government and business leaders held a groundbreaking ceremony at the development on June 4, 2014 to promote the start of the project. Plans for the community include a new elementary school for Thales Academy, a branch location and aquatics center for the YMCA of The Triangle, and construction of up to 810 new homes. McKee Homes will begin building homes in Knightdale Station in October of this year, while the YMCA of the Triangle's branch location and aquatics center is slated to open by May 2015.

The Knightdale Station neighborhood will offer a variety of recreation opportunities, in addition to the YMCA as it is situated near the 76-acre Knightdale Station municipal park that opened in September 2013. The municipal park currently offers a playground and dog park, and construction is under way for a tennis court, amphitheater, farmer's market and arboretum.

The roots of Preston Development's Knightdale Station neighborhood go back to 2005 when the group, affiliated with SAS founder Jim Goodnight, began acquiring the eastern Wake County property. The first phase of home construction will include 128 homes with prices starting in the range of $250,000 to $300,000, according to Preston Development's president Karl Blackley.

President of McKee Homes, Pat McKee, states "We will be building our Craftsman style homes in the 2,000 sq. ft to 3,500 sq. ft. range which will be specially finished and detailed just for Knightdale Station."

The Town of Knightdale is a suburb of Raleigh and is one of the fastest growing communities in North Carolina's Research Triangle, also known as The Triangle, which is consistently recognized as one of the fastest growing areas in the United States. The Triangle is anchored by the cities of Raleigh and Durham, the town of Chapel Hill, and is home to numerous science and technology companies, as well as institutes of higher education, including Duke University, North Caroline State University and the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill.
