Lorwen Paintings Gallery, http://www.lorwenpaintings.com is pleased to announce the kick off of their summer events, which will feature accomplished area artists and art curators, beginning May 31, 2015 and ending September 20, 2015.
David P Curtis, noted master Cape Ann artist will begin the series. His demonstration of plein air paintings techniques will show participants how lighting and values effect the quality of a landscape painting, as he works outdoors with a painting and easel. David Curtis has been instructing outdoor oil painting classes and workshops on Cape Ann, and throughout New England and Virginia, since 1993.
Much of Curtis’s focus is on light and values. He feels that all painters should focus on learning to see and for the outdoor painter understanding values is most import. According to Curtis, ” The study of light and shade – in order to paint an impression of the visual world – began in the 15th-century with Leonardo da Vinci (1452-1519) and his theories have provided the scientific foundation for understanding natural vision ever since.”
Future free summer events will include talks on the history of American Impressionism (from well-known curators from the Boston area), painting demonstrations from other accomplished landscape artists in the area, “come meet the artist” events, and children’s art sessions.
All events will be held at Lorwen Paintings Gallery, located in the Kittery Community Center, East Wing, Rm A103. The community center is just off the Memorial Circle Rotary in Kittery Maine, on 120 Rogers Rd.
These events, which are also open to those vacationing in southern Maine and nearby Portsmouth, NH are a great way to learn more about the large community of Maine Down East artists. Lorwen Nagle, impressionist painter and plein air landscape artist will be hosting these events.
