Los Angeles Painters Offer Tips For Exterior Painting

When painting the outside of a building, a few simple tips from Los Angeles painters can make the job go smoother.

Painting the outside if a building is hard enough. R&S Painting Plus, a professional Los Angeles painting company, shares a few pro tips to make the job easier.

Add sand for floor surfaces like ramps and steps.

“This is one of those ‘no-brainer’ ideas that is so often overlooked. Paint companies sell an aggregate, a specially formulated sand specifically for use in paint. Just follow the directions on the aggregate can and a slip-resistance surface is just a few paint strokes away,” said Deborah Myers, co-owner of R&S Painting.

Paint from top to bottom. Ms. Myers said this is another common-send painting tip that too many people overlook.

“Paint is a liquid and it’s going to go with the flow of gravity. That means down. By painted from top to bottom you do two things. One, you work with gravity to pull the paint down the surface. Two, you get the ladder work out of the way from the start, which means you’re not bracing a ladder on fresh paint,” the Los Angeles painter said.

Buy quality paint for exterior work. Ms. Myers said cheap paint may save money short term, but it exposure will degrade it much faster than a high quality paint.

Use primer. Professional Los Angeles painters use primers on their projects because they know primer provides the best possible surface for the fresh paint. Yes, this adds to the cost of the project, Ms. Myers said, but over the long term it’s also cheaper because the paint will hold up longer.
