Newport Beach, CA – The Modification Division of Lear Electric Marine Corporation has announced a conversion for the Duffy 21 that enhances steering in forward and reverse, increases speed and improves tracking.This new system includes a patented 5-blade propeller and single rudder that have been specifically designed for electric boats by Terry Baylor, VP of Manufacturing and Design at Lear Electric Marine.
“Terry and I were talking about how we could bring the LEAR 204 electric boat experience to more people. We decided one way to do that would be to offer a our rudder and propeller system as a conversion system for other electric boats” said Shanda Lear-Baylor, CEO and President of Lear Electric Marine and daughter of Learjet inventor Bill Lear.
“We met with a Duffy 21 owner and discussed the idea of retrofitting his boat with our prop and rudder and he agreed to let us use his boat as a prototype", continued Lear. "We retrofitted the boat and did some field testing. The difference in performance was nothing short of amazing.”
A demonstration video can be viewed at the Lear Electric Marine website. Test drives and conversions can be scheduled by visiting the website and signing up on a short form. The Duffy Conversion work will initially be done at the company’s Learboat factory in Southern California and can take up to two weeks depending on how many conversions have been scheduled.
The cost of each Duffy 21 conversion is $3,500.00, which includes all structural changes, fiberglass work, parts and labor. Similar conversions for other Duffy models will soon be made available. Work will initially be done by specialists at the Lear Electric Marine factory. Warranty for this work is 10 years parts and labor. The company is also seeking to add qualified domestic and international fiberglass shops and marinas that will be Lear-certified to do this work.
