Las Vegas Boy Scout Troop 770 published a new blog post today: “Boy Scouts Complete A 3-Day Colorado River Canoe Trek In Blacks Canyon.” The 12 young Scouts and 4 adult Scout leaders completed this Colorado River adventure while transporting personal and group camping gear in the 7 canoes and 2 kayaks they paddled. The blog post reveals how the Scouts learned to use light weight cooking stoves and utensils to prepare hot meals and how they had an endless supply of refreshing drinking water because they used water filtration pumps to purify water directly from the Colorado River.

The Scouts paddled canoes and kayaks for three days along the 12 mile corridor called Blacks Canyon beginning from the base of Hoover Dam in Nevada and ending at the Willow Beach Marina in Arizona. The Boy Scouts found remote areas to set up camp for the night along the rocky shoreline of the Colorado River. Along their trek, the boys explored narrow canyons, basked in hot springs, enjoyed the ropes course in Boy Scout Canyon and jumped off the rocky side of the river and into cool 53 degree emerald pools.

Las Vegas Boy Scout Troop 770 owner Brian Williams says, “I am very proud of these young boys who's age range from 11 to 13 who worked together as a team to handle the somewhat extreme 100 plus degree heat and over 12 miles of paddling while enjoying the many adventures this majestic part of America has to offer.”
