Weatherford, TX, July 28, 2015 — Leading petroleum business experts Meridian Associates, Inc. hosted their innovative event ‘Women in Petroleum 2015′ on July 20-22 at the Venetian Palazzo Resort in Las Vegas. This ladies only event provided a place for professional women in the petroleum industry to network, strategize and participate in focused mastermind sessions. A highlight of the event was the Outstanding Petroleum Woman Award which was awarded for the very first time during the event to professional businesswoman, Kim Thomas.
The Outstanding Petroleum Woman Award was designed to recognize a professional lady in the petroleum industry for outstanding performance. Nominees were judged on various criteria including their leadership qualities and contribution to their company, their overall impact on the industry, and their contribution to those around them in their business or community.
Accounting Manager, Kim Thomas from Tesei Petroleum was honored to be the first recipient of this prestigious award from Meridian. Thomas recalls her strength and drive to excel has placed her at the top in the industry.
“I was in line at unemployment, a single mom, and Lawrence Tesei’s neighbor worked at the office and said I have the perfect job for you! He made the intro and I was hired” states Kim Thomas. “Despite my humble beginnings as just a clerk, I am now number two in the company, behind the owner. I’ve learned everything I could on my own through my curiosity and need for more earnings, making myself more valuable.”
“It was amazing to see our judges pick someone in a support role for over 30 years” states Meridian President Betsi Bixby. “Her competition in the Top 10 Finalists included CEOs, Founders, gals who had done super amazing things. At the event, Kim mentioned that one of her keys to going from zero knowledge to where she is today was watching what her owner was doing daily, taking notes of what he seemed not to like, and then offering to learn those tasks and take them off his plate freeing him to work in his strength zones more. She is the kind of employee every petroleum owner would love to have and so deserving of this award.”
When asked what advice Thomas would give to other women entering the petroleum industry, her advice was simple “Enjoy the job and the people. Embrace it!
