Dayton, United States – September 29th, 2014 /PressCable/

The two-day event accommodated 23 International Masters of the Martial Arts where all of them were given the opportunity to teach movements characteristic of their respective styles.

The facility, which was located at Beachwood High School, was packed with instructors and students all donning their traditional martial arts attire. Participants came from various states including representatives from Canada. After singing the national anthems for both the US and Canada, acknowledgement was given to Ohio mayors Georgine Welo of South Euclid and Merle Gorden of Beachwood, as well as Erie, PA mayor Joseph Sinnott of Erie, PA – all of whom were present. one being a martial art instructor and participant himself. The individual who opened the event was the president and international director, Grandmaster Daniel McEaddy, a 10th degree black belt who presented a critical, yet inspiring talk on being a true devotee of the martial arts.

Proceeds from the International Gathering Circle of Masters seminars are turned over to the non-profit Veterans organization, “Awesome Heroes,” which provides counseling, education, and occupational and physical activities to Veterans who have received traumatic injuries (e.g., Post Traumatic Stress Syndrome, loss of limbs, sight, or other sensory deprivations) in order to help them with the recovery and reassimilation to civilian life.

Included in the mix was Grandmaster Manuel Taningco, a successful entrepreneur and owner of TAMA Family Martial Arts Center where he and his staff have been teaching since its 1976 establishment in the Dayton Metropolitan area. Taningco's objective was to promote “Kali America” and “Kali for Kids,” – two of his programs focused on the Filipino martial arts. He was accompanied by Virgil Mayor Apostol of Applied Sciences of Indigenous Healing, an entity dedicated to the practice, preservation, and promotion of traditional Filipino healing and martial arts, and other related cultural practices. Together, Taningco and Apostol represented the Maharlikan (Filipino) culture and heritage. http://tamamartialarts.com/

When Grandmaster Taningco and Apostol hit the floor, not only did the practitioners receive demonstrations of weapon and empty-handed drills, they also had the opportunity to be guided in TAMA close quarter combative tactical techniques by executing various movements that emphasized proper positioning and angulations, thus making the movements effectively flow with minimal effort.

During a conversation with Grandmaster McEaddy who has over 20 years experience in law enforcement, it was learned that he was stricken with polio back in 1957, but overcame it through the practice of the martial arts. It was perhaps due to his experiencing this debilitating disease that eventually influenced him to become an acupuncturist and Reiki master, in order to help those in need. McEaddy further explained how knowledge in the healing arts compliments the martial artist.

The closing of the gathering ended on Saturday evening during a banquet that was held at Tomo Hibachi of Downtown Cleveland. The people at each group of tables that surrounded large grills, were entertained to the comical antics of the chefs who sang nostalgic songs and performed juggling acts with their cooking utensils. They were free-spirited, joking with their audience while grilling menu selections that sent a mouth-watering mix of aromas making those seated even hungrier. Fine wine and imported beers complimented the delightful dinner..

Towards the end, the hosts presented surprise awards to unsuspecting recipients, one of whom was Manuel Taningco who received the International Circle of Masters Hall of Fame award for Grandmaster of the Year for Filipino Martial Arts. The International Gathering Circle of Masters and Grandmasters does not conform to the usual activities of other organizations that require some form of monetary payment before receiving certain certificates and special recognition. Their vision statement is: “To be perceived as ‘Best in Class' by the martial arts community as an organization of martial arts Masters who demonstrate the best of character,” while their mission statement is: “To be an organization of martial arts Masters and Grand Masters that provide vehicles that will start Masters, from all martial arts, to begin a self-study of themselves in order to develop themselves spiritually and assure their actions reflect the utmost of ethical standards.”

With such credible organizations still in existence, the quality of martial arts organization, ranking, and training will continue to bring forth wholesome practitioners, not only for the sake of self-defense and building confidence in each participants, but also for the development of respectable citizens throughout the world and honoring our veteran heroes who had served our country.
