September 20, 2014: – Interim HealthCare of the Central Valley has announced it is participating in a “Veteran Sponsorship” of Justin Bond, a Retired Army Sergeant, as part of the 12th Annual Golf Tournament organized by the Alzheimer's Foundation of Central California, a non-profit organization whose mission is to provide state-of-the-art education, research and care to Alzheimer's patients and their families in Central California.
The purpose of the tournament is to raise funds for the foundation to continue providing essential services and to bring more awareness about Alzheimer's. The services include referrals to medical care, respite/long term care and financial resources for families suffering with Alzheimer's disease.
Because Interim HealthCare is passionate about education, support, and quality care for seniors and their families who are affected by Alzheimer's disease, the company decided to sponsor a veteran for the event. The “Veteran Sponsorship” as defined by Alzheimer's Foundation of Central California, is to support veterans who would like to participate in the tournament, but cannot afford the registration fee, and Justin Bond is one such veteran.
“We chose to sponsor a veteran for this event because we believe in the cause,” said Sarah Ahmed, Owner of Interim HealthCare of the Central Valley. “After considering what the event is about and the reputation of Alzheimer's Foundation of Central California, it was the right decision to become part of such a worthwhile endeavor.”
Interim HealthCare of the Central Valley provides caregiving services to a number of wounded warriors, veterans, and people with Alzheimer's disease.
The Story of Justin Bond
Interim HealthCare of the Central Valley decided to sponsor Bond because of his life history and the kind of inspiration he carries within him.
Bond is an amputee OEF OIF Iraq and Afghanistan. While in Iraq, in the battle of Fallujah, he was shot by an AK47 round. That one shot went through both knees, ricocheted off the vehicle, and then reentered his leg. So he was hit 3 times by the same bullet. He was in the hospital for 1.5 years and in Germany in ICU for 10 days. Justin had a total of 33 surgeries before they finally had to amputate his leg. In December of 2014, Justin received a golden retriever service dog named Boomer. Boomer was at the hospital with him throughout this period and today he even does the laundry.
Within the past 10 years that he has been living as an amputee, Justin founded a non-profit called Our Heroes' Dreams to help support veterans who are living with PTSD. The goal of the non-profit is to provide retreats and a sanctuary for such veterans. There they can swim with the dolphins, eat breakfast with elephants, and bond with nature in a healing way. Our Heroes' Dreams is located in Monterey and operates part time due to financial constraints.
Justin's commitment to support veterans was also demonstrated by doing a Segway tour from Monterey to Florida. During the tour he gave away Segway's to raise money and awareness about the necessity to support veterans.
