The Innerspace Corporation recently announced the use of its innovative thrusters and their role in the trek to the Titanic by Cyclops 2. Designed and developed by OceanGate, the Cyclops 2 is a research class submersible that is scheduled to be completed in the early half of 2018. This submersible has the ability to take five people down 4,000 meters and is set to be the only privately owned submersible in the entire world that is able to dive to these depths. OceanGate chose the electric thrusters designed and built by Innerspace Corp in Covina, CA to power the submersible.“The 2018 Titanic Survey Expedition was originally announced by OceanGate Expeditions on March 14th, 2017,” stated Innerspace Corp. representative Omar Rafeh. “This is going to mark the very first manned submersible expedition to the wreckage site of the RMS Titanic since the last one, which took place in 2005. It is set to depart from St. John in Newfoundland in May of 2018 and is scheduled to last for a period of six weeks to map and explore the most famous shipwreck in the world.”
Innerspace thruster specifications exceeded the needs of the submersible motors that were going to be used on Cyclops 2. Due to the quality of design and manufacturing, along with the flexibility of the integration into the Cyclops 2, OceanGate made the decision to use these thrusters on their craft. The Cyclops 2 is going to use four of the Innerspace electric thrusters with two mounted horizontally and two mounted vertically.
Rafeh continued, “When CEO of OceanGate, Stockton Rush asked us to join in on this project, we were more than excited to be part of this undertaking. We understand that few manufacturers get the honor of participating and our thrusters will provide the underwater propulsion necessary to make this mission a success.”
While the mission is still over a year away, OceanGate and Innerspace Corp. are working diligently to ensure everything is ready. This is a mission the entire world will be watching.
