Hudson Robotics announces the development of an automation interface for the DynaProTM Plate Reader from Wyatt Technology Corp., Goleta, CA. Hudson has developed and tested the DynaPro integrated into a state-of-the-art robot workcell built for Abbott Laboratories in Abbott Park, IL. This development represents the first time Wyatt DynaPro readers have ever been integrated into an automated workcell.

The workcell actually employs two DynaPro readers in simultaneous operation, both serviced by Hudson's PlateCrane microplate-handling robot arm. In fact, one of the readers is the model WPR and the other is the latest model WPR2. SoftLinxTM, Hudson's powerful automation scheduling software, controls all three devices. SoftLinx operates Wyatt's Dynamics Software, which runs the readers, and coordinates the readers' operation with the PlateCrane's plate delivery functions.

The workcell also features Hudson's unique Guided Operation (GO) technology, which provides a step-by-step guide to users who can operate the workcell with a minimum of expertise in automated laboratory instruments. The user is prompted for every activity he/she must perform. The GO interface also stores and executes a schedule of repeated plate reads for each plate on a time schedule input by the user. This allows kinetic measurements to be taken, even through the night in unattended operation.

In order to operate both readers simultaneously, the system has to employ two separate computers. Both are needed to run its own session of Wyatt's Dynamics Software, which cannot be run together in the same computer. The unique features of SoftLinx enables the workcell to coordinate the running of both software sessions seamlessly, just as if they were both controlled by only one computer.
