Dallas, TX—Highland Park Endodontics is changing the way patients experience root canals and other endodontic procedures. “Most people hear the words ‘root canal' and they have a very negative reaction,” said Thomas W. Choate, DDS. But advances in technology, combined with a focus on patient comfort measures, means that patients can have a much different experience. “We're always improving the patient experience. People shouldn't let their perceptions keep them from getting necessary and beneficial treatment.”
Highland Park's team of five specialists begins by educating patients to ensure they fully understand the options available. They also offer several different kinds of sedation, including oral, IV and nitrous oxide (“laughing gas”) to maximize comfort. In addition, the team offers an array of services aimed at making patients more comfortable. Some of the services may make patients feel they're in a spa rather than a dental office. Not only are there DVD players and televisions, but even massage pads, paraffin hand treatments, foot warmers, and a juice bar. “We believe that relaxed patients have a much better experience,” said Murat Ayik, DDS.
The practice also uses state of the art sterilization and infection control techniques and focuses on researching the latest improvements in dental technology. “We want to offer our patients the most advanced options,” said Choate. “For example, we use a digital caries detector for diagnosis. It's a highly sophisticated computer analysis that can detect changes in tooth density and give us the most accurate diagnosis of the level of decay. And we are the only endodontic practice in Texas that has an endoscope, which allows us to look directly into the tooth canal. The technology changes constantly. That's another reason people shouldn't think that an old root canal experience is the same as what they would experience today.”
In addition to their specialization in surgical root canals, the Highland Park dentist team offers an array of cosmetic and endodontic services, including diagnosis and treatment of cracked teeth and traumatically injured teeth, bleaching, and post root canal tooth buildup. “As a cosmetic dentist, I also want to ensure that patients are happy with the appearance of the work,” said Ayik. “Everyone should be proud of their smile.”
