Free eBook downloads have played a big part in book launches
for self-published authors, but romance author AJ Harmon has taken it to a new level. She is offering the first book in both of her romance novel series for free at the same time on Amazon Kindle, Nook and iTunes, to entice new readers to try her books.
“I’ll never forget my first free eBook promotion on Amazon,” Harmon began. “I’d written a romance novel on a dare from a friend and my husband and son published it for me on Kindle. We had sold a few when we decided to try the KDP free book promotion, just to see what would happen.
“I was an unknown, no-name author back then, but I watched in awe as hundreds of eBooks were downloaded on the first day. Over 11,000 free copies were downloaded between Christmas and New Year’s Day, just seven weeks after releasing the book. I went from being “a nobody” to a “USA Today Best Selling Romance Novel Author” in a very short period of time because I was willing to let readers try a free book to see if they’re going to like my work before I ever ask them to invest a penny.”
The ‘Free eBook Test Drive’ strategy has worked very well for Harmon. She has published 13 romance novels and had the Top Rated romance novel series on Amazon for 19 weeks last year. By regularly offering her debut book in the First Class Novel series, and working with romance novel bloggers from around the world, she has become a rising star in the romance publishing industry and has been invited, and attended, author signing events around the world.

Since offering “San Diego – Love comes in many forms” free to readers last week it has jumped into the top 100 in Women’s Fiction and Inspirational Romance categories on Amazon Kindle.
