Inc. Magazine reported that 14% of all working age Americans are starting or growing businesses but less than 1% of minority women in the same age groups are following suit. Business development expert, Professor LaTanya White thinks this is because of fear.
“Many of the people I worked with had not pulled the trigger on their ideas because of fear until I took the time to empower them with a proven step-by-step process to overcome the fear they had about starting a business or launching an idea,” says Professor LaTanya White, an entrepreneurship educator at the nation’s largest Historically Black College/University (HBCU). White is also a Certified Business Analyst through the Florida Small Business Development Center Network. She has counselled more than 300 students and clients on the assumptions they have about starting a business.
White has designed a cutting-edge business success program called Pivot University to coach and mentor courageous entrepreneurs and helps them pivot their assumptions about what it will take to get their business or idea to the next level. “People need a check list. They need to be able to see the big picture but also be recognized for the small steps they are taking, even when they feel paralyzed by fear and that’s what Pivot University does for entrepreneurs,” says White, speaking at the National Publicity Summit in New York City.
“I have been testing this model with students of all ages, interests and backgrounds for the last three years and the number of people that have gone from ‘wantrepreneur’ to ‘entrepreneur’ has increased by more than 10-fold.”
