American Fiber Cement provides Fiber Cement products for High School Reconstruction.

American Fiber Cement (AFC) is known for its durable and expert products that withstand the test of time and severe weather. Recently, Greer Stafford/SJCF Architecture was chosen to construct a two-phase high school replacement project at Los Lunas High School located in Los Lunas, New Mexico. At the onset of the project, the existing building system had drainage problems, decades of haphazard development work and a structure that was past its shelf life.

As an expert in constructing buildings, Greer Stafford understands the durability, reliability and sustainability of American Fiber Cement products. They purchased nearly 17,500 square feet from AFC of Eter Color Ochre Yellow and Gray fiber cement panels for the project. This through-color, autoclaved and high-density fiber cement board is a great alternative to other more expensive building materials used for exterior cladding. It is lightweight, fast and easy to install and most importantly, durable.

To promote responsible and sustainable building design, Greer Stafford used American Fiber Cement’s rain screen system, which accommodates for the use of exterior insulation. They purchased nearly 15,000 square feet of the 1.5” Thermafiber Rainbarrier 45 mineral wool insulation. AFC’s system not only helps insulate the building, but also manages moisture properly and regulates temperatures saving countless dollars in heating and cooling costs.

They used American Fiber Cement products to reconstruct the classroom wings and a new single two-story building that will be used to house four learning communities. The construction project also includes a new courtyard that will allow the school’s students to gather outside while still creating a supervised and secured campus. This plan will complete Phase 1 of the construction plans.

Phase 2 of the plan is scheduled to begin October 2013 and will include nearly 160,000 square feet of demolition as well as 27,000 square feet of portables. Greer Stafford will use American Fiber Cement products in order to create approximately 195,000 square feet of new construction to complete the replacement project.
